Style Your Windows with This Year’s Best Decor Trends

With the growing chill in the air, we’ve all begun to turn our energy toward indoor home improvement and decorating projects. Soon our homes will be filling with parades of beloved friends and family. What better time than now to style your window treatments with this year’s best decor trends? Here’s a quick recap of some of our top 3 favorites. Take a look, then maybe select some favorite inspiration images to help guide your choices, as we did with the image above.

Industrial + Transitional
You’ve seen the popular look of industrial-inspired decor filling artists’ lofts and chic urban hideaways for several years. Now, we get to enjoy the best of both worlds: appealing wooden shutters in matte black or ivory, accented with aged-look pewter or brass hardware or accents. As desired, a light sanding or distressing may be carefully added to solid wood shutters for added impact. Just the right amount of panache, without making your home look like a restoration hardware knockoff. Simple and true to your unique aesthetic.

Global Exotic
Do you love the colors, textures and patterns of India, Morocco, and Turkey the way we do? Then you’re going to love this. Replacing the formerly popular “Tuscan” motifs, Global Exotic decor will fill your room with the rich, colorful hues that will brighten up any chilly grey day. Fabric shades are available in a myriad of these rich hues, as well as patterns. Choosing a rich shade color that stands up as a neutral by itself, such as a deep eggplant skewing toward black, plum, or aubergine, yet relates happily to the color saturated accessories in the room such as pillows, window seat and chair coverings, and throws. A wood shutter with a pronounced exotic grain pattern, such as bamboo or tigerwood, is another striking choice. Accent your look with fun accessory finds in mother of pearl, faux horn, tinted glass, brass and/or iron. Complete your look with a beautiful rug featuring various colors from your assemblage.

Vintage Hollywood Glam
This is another incredibly fun style trend to interpret in your own special way. Begin with a base of wood shutters in matte or glossy black, cream, or palest blush champagne. If you prefer, you can also go with a fabric shade in a creamy blush range, paired with a glamorously full,  sweeping window scarf falling in a generous pool to the floor. Choose between pewter look, aged brass, or shiny chrome or brass for hardware or accents. A gorgeous, art deco inspired sculptural tie back works beautifully with your dramatic window scarf. Accents in similarly hued marble, mother-of-pearl, mirror or mercury glass finishes, shiny brass or chrome, aged sterling, pewter or brass, and special vintage keepsakes like glass and sterling decanters, mirrors in one-of-a-kind frames, and elegant typographic prints.
